The Kaisergarten zoo in Oberhausen, with an area of around 20 hectars, forms a small oasis in the industrial centre of the Ruhr area.

Specialising in the keeping if native wild animals and domestic breeds, it is a popular excursion destination for more than 400,000 young and old visitors, who can experience many animals up close without paying an entrance fee.

Beside the typical German red deer, lynx and moufflons there are also animals like nutria and raccoon to observe. The zoo also tries to make endangered domestic animal breeds known and to preserve them.
